Bontril is an appetite suppressant. This
diet drug is the brand name of Phendimetrazine.
Bontril is used along with a diet, exercise and behavior therapy.
It is prescribed for a short duration to tackle the problems associated
with being over weight. Bontril works by increasing metabolism which
decreases the appetite.
Usage Directions for Bontril:
- Take Bontril at least 30 minutes before you start with your
meal
- Do not crush or chew this prescription, should be swallowed
as a whole
- Drink a full glass of water along with Bontril
Incase of a missed dose take the dose as soon as possible, but if it's already late in the day skip the dose and resume scheduled dosing. Do not take two doses at the same time.
Side Effects of Bontril:
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
- Sleeplessness
- Irritability
- Stomach upset
Other adverse events include central nervous system effects, gastrointestinal
disturbances and changes in libido. If these effects persist or
become bothersome, you may have to discontinue use.
If bontril makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Hence, it is advisable not to drink while taking bontril. Moderate amount of chest pain, pounding heart and breathing difficulties or swelling may also occur while taking this medication.
Precautions
Inform your doctor in case of the following health conditions.
- Allergies
- Hyperthyroidism
- High blood pressure
- A history of drug or alcohol abuse
Do not use this medicine if you suffer from high blood pressure
or any sort of heart disease. It is an unknown fact if Bontril is
excreted in breast milk.
Once you start with Bontril inform your doctor if you if you experience
pounding heart, nervousness, chest pain, difficulty urinating, swelling
while using this medicine and difficulty breathing.
Storing Bontril:
Store Bontril diet
drug in room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
Medication should not be kept after its expiry date. This prescription
and all other medications should be kept away from the reach of
children.
Notes:
Take Bontril ONLY as directed by your doctor. If too much Bontril is taken, it may cause unwanted effects or become habit-forming. Do NOT take it for a longer time than prescribed by your doctor.
