Tenuate is an oral weight loss prescription. This diet drug is
a sympathomimetic amine; it is similar to an amphetamine. Tenuate
works by stimulating the central nervous system, which involves
the nerves and the brain. This diet
pill decreases your appetite by increasing your heart rate and
blood pressure. Tenuate is also known by the name of Diethylpropion.
It works in conjunction with a proper routine of exercise and diet.
Tenuate diet pills are a safe and effective way for rapid weight
loss when it is taken as per directions. Tenuate is highly addictive
and should generally be used with a behavior modification program.
Tenuate is prescribed for a short term use, being 8 - 12 weeks.
The availability of tenuate is in two forms:
- Immediate release tablets (Tenuate)
- Controlled release tablets (Tenuate Dospan).
Dosage which is prescribed for Tenuate:
Before the intake of any medicine, your doctor should be consulted.
Each dose of tenuate should be taken on an empty stomach. An evening
of dose of this pill may be taken to overcome the urge to over eat.
Though tenuate is taken three times a day, you should follow your
doctor's instructions. Tenuate diet pills should not be crushed
or chewed as it can enhance the side effects of the medicine. Taking
more of this prescription, than prescribed can lead to adverse effects.
Missed dose:
The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. The dose should be skipped if you're nearing the schedule of the next dose. Avoid taking this medicine late in the day as it can cause insomnia.
Side Effects caused due to the use of Tenuate
are:
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
- Sleeplessness and irritability
- Stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days
as your body adjusts to the medication .
Other adverse effects include central nervous system disturbances,
gastrointestinal disturbances and changes in libido. If these effects
persist or become bothersome, you may have to discontinue use.
If tenuate makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging
in activities requiring alertness. Alcohol can increase unwanted
side effects of dizziness. Hence, it is advisable not to drink while
taking tenuate. Moderate amount of chest pain, pounding heart and
breathing difficulties or swelling may also occur while taking this
medication.
Precautions:
You must not exceed the recommended dose or take this medicine for
longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding
the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed
may cause serious Side Effects. Use in combination with other appetite
suppressant medicine is generally not recommended.
- Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until
you know how you react to tenuate
- Do not miss any medical appointments while taking the drug
and before any medical or dental treatments, emergency care or
surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using tenuate.
- Do not take tenuate if you are pregnant.
- Tenuate is excreted in breast milk. Do not take tenuate while
breast feeding
- Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not
prescribed
- Do not use tenuate for other health conditions
Note:
Take Tenuate ONLY as directed by your doctor. If too much Tenuate is taken, it may cause unwanted effects or become habit-forming. Do NOT take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.
