Xenical is an oral weight
loss prescription. This diet pill is prescribed for a short
duration, usually 8 - 12 weeks to fight the problem related to obesity.
Xenical is also referred to as Orlistat. This medicine is used in
conjunction with a balanced diet and proper exercise. Xenical works
by decreasing your body's absorption of some fat - soluble vitamins.
It blocks some of the fat eaten from being absorbed by the body.
Xenical is also prescribed for some other health problems other
than obesity.

Less common side effects of xenical may
include:
Dry skin, Ear, Nose, Throat problems, and joint disorders. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. Side effects such as diarrhea and abdominal pain may be worse if you continue eating a high fat diet or even take a high-fat meal. Limit your fat intake.
Precautions
- Dosage : Do not exceed the
recommended dose or take this medicine for longer than prescribed
without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose
or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may cause serious
Side Effects.
- Driving and Hazardous work :
Xenical may cause dizziness or make you less alert than normal.
Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until
you know how you react to Xenical
- Alcohol : Alcohol may increase
unwanted side effects of dizziness, therefore, it is advisable
to limit alcohol use while taking Xenical (or other appetite suppressants).
- Medical conditions : Tell
your doctor your medical history, including: allergies, digestive
disorders (malabsorption or cholestasis), low thyroid function
(hypothyroidism), other metabolism problems (e.g., oxalate kidney
stones, hyperoxaluria).
- Breast Feeding - Use of Xenical
(or other appetite suppressants) while breast-feeding is NOT recommended;
it may pass into breast milk, causing unwanted effects in nursing
babies. Please consult your doctor for advice.
- Diet : This medicine can cause
changes in your bowel habits, such as fatty or oily stools, due
to the elimination of undigested fat in your stool. Xenical reduces
the absorption of supplements of some fat soluble nutrients, particularly
beta-carotene and vitamin E. You should therefore follow your
doctor's advice in taking a well balanced diet rich in fruit and
vegetables.
- Diabetics : If you are diabetic,
Xenical may affect your blood sugar control. See your doctor regularly
for monitoring and treatment adjustments.
